At least seven stories in a best-selling book of 33 anecdotes relating to Tokyo Disneyland highly likely violate copyright, its publisher, Sanctuary Publishing Inc., said Friday.

The book, "Saigo no Paredo--Dizuniirando de Honto-ni Atta Kokoro Atatamaru Hanashi" (The Last Parade--Heartwarming True Stories from Tokyo Disneyland), has sold about 230,000 copies. After announcing the results of its investigation, Sanctuary's president, Kensuke Tsurumaki, said, "I apologize to people concerned and readers."

Tsurumaki added that the company would recall about 160,000 copies of the book from stores starting the same day and would take out ads in national newspapers apologizing over the issue.

According to the company, the book contains seven anecdotes that closely resemble stories and the writing style of a prize-winning essay entered in a contest put on by the firm Small Kindness Movement Executive Office as well as six stories introduced in an internal company training booklet of Oriental Land Co., the operator of Tokyo Disneyland.

The employee booklet was compiled in April last year using the notes of Disneyland staffers. Though the author of "Saigo no Paredo," Masaru Nakamura, worked at the theme park, he was no longer employed there at the time the booklet was being edited. Sanctuary Publishing said it believes Nakamura used the stories without Oriental Land's permission.
